CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS AS THE BOSTON GAY MEN’S CHORUS PRESENTS
HAUL OUT THE HOLLY
AT NEW ENGLAND CONSERVATORY’S JORDAN HALL DECEMBER 15, 20, 21 & 22 2013
The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus annual holiday celebration takes place December 15, 20, 21 & 22 at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall on December 15, 20, 21 & 22. Haul Out the Holly celebrates the holidays with traditional favorites and new classics. Twelve Gays of Christmas will delight audiences and Little Drummer Boy is a dance number being created especially for the BGMC. Santa’s going to stop by!
“The holidays in Boston are my favorite time of year,” says Reuben M. Reynolds, III the Chorus’ Music Director since 1997. “We get to see all sorts of traditions being celebrated. We’ll be doing the same on stage, exploring a variety of traditions, both seriously and with our usual dash of humor.”
The Chorus will premiere Jake Heggie’s Six Christmas Traditions that looks at holiday customs, including: Santa, Christmas Sweaters, Fruitcake (or “Unjust Desserts”), Presents, Loneliness (or “A Midnight Drear”) and Families.
“The BGMC concerts are Boston’s other holiday tradition,” said Craig Coogan the organization’s Executive Director. “The concert will fill you with the cheer and goodwill of the season.”
Boston Gay Men’s Chorus creates musical experiences to inspire change, build community and celebrate difference. The BGMC is one of New England’s largest and most successful community-based choruses. Founded in 1982, the 175-voice ensemble is celebrated for its outstanding musicianship, creative programming, and groundbreaking community outreach. Under the dynamic leadership of Music Director Reuben M. Reynolds III, the BGMC sings a wide spectrum of classical and popular music and creates social change by providing a positive, affirming image of the gay and lesbian community. The Chorus is heard live by more than 10,000 people each season and thousands more through recording, television and internet broadcasts. The City of Boston’s Arts, Tourism and Special Events office says “The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus is a crown jewel in the city’s cultural landscape.”
The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus is generously supported by Bank of America, JetBlue, Reproductive Science Center, and Manhunt. BGMC is a proud partner of the Massachusetts Cultural Commission.
