Boston, MA – As Massachusetts marks two decades since the groundbreaking legalization of same-gender marriage, the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus in partnership with the City of Cambridge is proud to announce a special performance at Cambridge City Hall on May 18th. This historic event pays homage to Cambridge, the first city in the nation to issue same-gender marriage licenses in May 2004, and celebrates the monumental strides made in the fight for equal marriage rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The commemorative event, scheduled for Saturday, May 18th, from 11:30am to 3:00 pm, will take place at Cambridge City Hall located at 795 Massachusetts Avenue. The performance promises to be a joyous and uplifting celebration of love, equality, and progress.
“Love knows no bounds, and neither does the joy of celebrating 20 years of same-gender marriage,” said Sarah Shoffner, the BGMC Executive Director. “I am honored to have BGMC serenade the community in celebrating this incredible milestone. Just as we did in 2004, our performance at Cambridge City Hall is a testament to the progress made and a reminder of the work that still lies ahead. We continue to raise our voices for love, acceptance, and inclusion.”
Music Director Reuben Reynolds added, “Music has the extraordinary power to bridge divides and unite communities. As we commemorate 20 years of same-gender marriage, it’s crucial to acknowledge the pivotal role Cambridge played in this movement and to continue advocating for the rights and dignity of all individuals. BGMC has been a powerful force behind this movement and will continue to be there every step of the way.”
The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus invites the community to join them at Cambridge City Hall on May 18th to commemorate this historic milestone and to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.
