We are more than just a chorus. Audition FAQ

When are auditions?

Twice each year, in August and January, we audition prospective singing members.

What voice parts are you looking for?

Tenors are especially encouraged to audition. Other voice parts available are Baritone and Bass.

What kind of experience do I need?

Experienced singers are encouraged to audition. Although prior singing experience and elementary music reading skill is helpful, it is not a prerequisite.

What would I do at the audition?

Your audition will be a unique mix of sight singing, musical skill assessment, and an enlightening conversation – all set to determine your fit in our vibrant, diverse chorus. No prepared piece is necessary.

Do I need an appointment?

Appointments are required for all auditions and can be made using our scheduler at the bottom of this page. Please arrive a few minutes early to fill out the necessary paperwork.

When will I hear back on my audition?

Decisions about auditions are communicated in writing within 48 hours of the audition.

What happens once I join?

New members are assigned a chorus buddy to help them learn more about the BGMC experience. We also offer an orientation and have an onboarding welcoming process to ensure you have a good experience.

What We Ask of Our Members

Worried about the commitment? Our schedule is flexible, requiring members to attend 85% of our Wednesday rehearsals and participation in various events. There is a membership fee, but rest assured, financial assistance is available for those who need it. Plus, all members must be fully vaccinated, ensuring a safe space for everyone.

  • A commitment to BGMC policies, procedures, and expectations of membership as detailed in the Member Handbook
  • Attend 85% of weekly rehearsals (Wednesdays from 7-10 pm), plus attending a day-long retreat and tech/dress rehearsals each concert series
  • Perform all music from memory at each concert and without a mask in performance wardrobe.
  • Pay dues (roughly $300 annually) to cover a small portion of music licensing costs and other member-related events. *Financial ability is not a barrier for participation, as BGMC has a Member Assistance Program to help vocalists who need help with dues, retreat fees and even getting a performance wardrobe (tux, shoes etc).
  • BGMC’s policy is that all employees, contractors, and members of the organization must be 100% vaccinated, including booster shots. BGMC has a fundamental commitment to inclusion and we pride ourselves on our culture of welcome. At this time, however, without vaccine verification, individuals are not able to participate with the organization.
