How was our first day in South Africa?
AMAZING!
It took a long time to get here but it was worth it! We left Boston at 11pm on Monday and arrived in JoBurg at about noon on Wednesday. As we were leaving the airport, we were greeted by two local choruses who regaled us (and the entire airport) with a number of songs. What a treat!
We got to our hotel and had the rest of the time to ourselves. I saw Mandela Square a short distance from the hotel. Weather has been good. Warm days and cool nights. Reminds me of San Francisco, the hills are brown and there are a few palm trees about. Wednesday night we went as a group to Carnivore Restaurant where we were served slices of crocodile, impala, and zebra skewered on Masaai swords and cooked over an open fire, which many of us enjoyed with South African wine. It’s been a truly amazing and our time here has just begun. Awesome!
