Vocalists’ Commitment To The Chorus
Joining the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus (BGMC) is a rewarding experience, and being part of our community requires a commitment to excellence, camaraderie, and preparation. Here’s what is expected of our vocalists:
- Membership Dues: To remain an active member of BGMC, vocalists contribute annual dues of $255 (covering September through August).
- Sheet Music and Technology: BGMC provides sheet music electronically, so vocalists will need a tablet or iPad for rehearsals.
- Performance Attire: our standard concert attire consists of a Tuxedo; which members are responsible for acquiring. If a member’s authentic presentation of themselves varies from the standard performance presentation, the member and the Music Director/Executive Director shall work together to find an accommodation.
- Performance Requirement: Vocalists are required to perform on stage in at least two mainstage productions each season.
- Rehearsal and Performance Standards: Performances are delivered off-book and from memory, with light choreography included.
- COVID-19 Safety: To prioritize the health of our community, vocalists are asked to test negative for COVID-19 before each rehearsal or performance held outside of our home space. Members are responsible for obtaining their own tests.
- Travel Accommodations: Vocalists are responsible for arranging their own travel to and from rehearsals, performances, and other BGMC events unless otherwise specified.
Financial and Material Support
We firmly believe that financial or material challenges should never prevent someone from performing with us. BGMC has resources available to assist vocalists who need support, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in our chorus.
By upholding these commitments, each vocalist helps maintain the high standards and inclusive spirit that define the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus.
