BassRunners

The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus is pleased to sponsor a team in the Beantown Softball League (BSL), the largest athletic organization open to LGBT people and straight allies in New England.

The team began play in 2013 as the Rangers. Two years later, the Chorus offered its sponsorship and the team was renamed as the BGMC BassRunners.  Under the leadership of Chorus member and Head Coach Ken Golner, the BassRunners have become one of the most successful teams in league history:

2022: 12-4 Record; Division 3 Regular Season (3rd place) & Playoff Finalists
2021: 12-1 Record; Division 3 Regular Season & Playoff Champions
2020: 13-3 Record; Division 3 2nd Place
2019: 11-3 Record; Division 3 Playoff Champions
2018: 14-6 Record; Division 4 Regular Season & Playoff Champions
2017: 2-16 Record (in Division 3)
2016: 15-3 Record; Division 4 Regular Season & Playoff Champions
2015: 15-3 Record; Division 4 Playoff Champions
2014: 12-6 Record; Division 4 Playoff Champions
2013: 5-15 Record

“Community engagement is a core part of the Chorus’s mission and we’re thrilled to be reaching out to a segment of LGBT community we’ve haven’t previously collaborated with,” said BGMC Executive Director Craig Coogan. “We chose the name BGMC BassRunners because bass is a vocal section of the Chorus and we couldn’t resist the pun!”

Founded in 1978, the Beantown Softball league fields close to 20 teams in four divisions of play: competitive, intermediate, and two recreational divisions.
